Findings of a report compiled by the Public Affairs Research Institute (PARI) on the South African Police Service (SAPS) has concluded, that the country's police service in its current state is not fit for purpose. PARI says the police are not only failing to keep the nation safe, but they are failing in almost every aspect of their duty, including crime prevention and detection. This, despite commitments from the president to clean up and strengthen law enforcement institutions, there appears to be no real agenda to reform the Police Service. Corruption and State Capture Research Specialist, Devi Pillay, is a researcher for the State Reform Programme at the Public Affairs Research Institute (PARI).
