Crowd cheering STORYLINE: A new sense of uncertainty has risen over Pennsylvania’s pivotal Senate contest. Democrats are struggling to remain optimistic about John Fetterman’s candidacy after a rocky debate performance. Fetterman took the debate stage Tuesday five months after suffering a stroke. He struggled to complete sentences, and he jumbled words throughout the hourlong event. That was not a surprise for those voters who know him best — Fetterman has never been a smooth orator. But it stirred a fresh sense of anxiety among party leaders and rank-and-file voters. Fetterman appeared at a rally Wednesday night at an outdoor stage in Pittsburgh and, before a crowd of what the campaign said was 3,000 people, spoke smoothly for 13 minutes before introducing musician Dave Matthews. Fetterman acknowledged that doing the debate “wasn’t exactly easy" just months after a stroke. “In fact, I don’t think that’s ever been done before in American political history,” he said. Fetterman also joked about his struggles with speaking while calling his opponent, Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz a fraud. "He sold miracle kinds of cures that I can't even pronounce. Even before the stroke." Fetterman also reminded supporters that Oz comes from New Jersey, and moved to Pennsylvania more recently. The stadium's name was changed this year. =========================================================== Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork Twitter: / ap_archive Facebook: / aparchives Instagram: / apnews You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/you...
