The Royal tantra on the brilliant diffusion of majestic space 皇家密宗论雄伟空间的辉煌扩散 A root tantra of the space section. 空间部分的根本密续。 INTRODUCTION The Great Perfection, also known as the Atiyoga or Dzogchen (rDzogs chen), is a tradition of esoteric Buddhism that upholds instantaneous enlightenment. The literature of the Great Perfection has been divided up into three groups or sections: The Mind Section (Sems sde), the Space Section (kLong sde), and the Upadeśa Instruction Section (Man ngag sde). The Royal Tantra on the Brilliant Diffusion of Majestic Space is the King of the Space Section Tantras, and is here translated in full for the first time. The Space Section transmission is known as the Vajra Bridge (rDo rje zam pa). It is said that Vairochana, a famous translator who was active during the Eighth Century of the Common Era, received the texts and instructions for the Space Section from his teacher Śrī Singha, and then passed them down to his student Mipham Gonpo. It is said that for five generations of this lineage every master achieved a rainbow body at the time of his passing away. I have previously translated and published several of the Space Section Tantras. The Great Tantra of Vajrasattva: Equal to the End of the Sky is a Root “Tantra of the Space Section. The Nine Spaces of the Ocean of the Bodhicitta, contained in The Secret Tantras of the Fish Wheel and the Nine Spaces, is also a Root Tantra of the Space Section. The Tantras on Secret Wisdom, contained in Secret Wisdom: Three Root Tantras of the Great Perfection are also Root Tantras of the Space Section. It has been a great pleasure to translate the King of the Root Tantras of the Space Section: The Royal Tantra on the Brilliant Diffusion of Majestic Space. I hope that you enjoy it. I have included images of the Tibetan manuscript to help preserve this important literary tradition and for your convenience. Thank you, Christopher Wilkinson June 2016
