Korean government officials and representatives from the ruling Saenuri Party met at the National Assembly on Wednesday to discuss preventative measures against a Zika virus outbreak. At a briefing after the meeting, attended by Health Minister Chung Chin-youb and the director of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Jung Ki-suck ,... the group announced plans to increase the number of inspection and quarantine units in the country. They also plan to put a system in place by the end of the year that would enable authorities to track locals who visited an affected country... using their mobile roaming service. "The system would also enable authorities to keep track of people who visit an affected country and come back to Korea through a third country." On Tuesday, Korea confirmed its first Zika case in a 43-year-old man... who showed symptoms of infection after coming back from a 22-day business trip to Brazil. The man recovered after being hospitalized for a day and was discharged on Wednesday morning. The KCDC director said a secondary infection from the man is highly unlikely... and reiterated that the Zika virus is not airborne and cannot be transmitted through physical contact with an infected person.
