Jesus contrasts the proud Pharisee—who trusted in his own righteousness—with the humble tax collector, who simply cried out for mercy. God did not respond to the polished words of pride, but to the broken heart of humility. True humility is not just a physical posture (kneeling, bowed head, clasped hands) — it is a heart posture. God hears prayers that flow from sincere repentance, dependence, and faith. Effective prayer is not performance; it is alignment with God’s will, trust in His character, and submission to His authority.
