Haiti: man killed during political unrest

(6 Nov 2015) A man was shot dead on Thursday in Haiti's capital during political unrest that broke out hours after preliminary presidential election results were announced. Associated Press journalists saw the dead body in the neighborhood of Delmas 33 in Port-Au-Prince. Tires were also burned in some areas of the capital. The man who died belonged to the political party of Moise Jean-Charles, a former senator who came in third place in the poll, according to preliminary election results from the Provisional Electoral Council. Jean-Charles got 14.2 percent of the vote and has insisted the results are a sham orchestrated by current president Michel Martelly. Government-backed candidate Jovenel Moise came in first place and former state construction chief Jude Celestin in second place, according to the preliminary results. If the results are confirmed, Moise and Celestin will go to a runoff election on 27 December for the presidency.
