Long term baseball card values generally depend on if a specific player is good enough to make the hall of fame. If a player had a great career, but just missed the hall of fame then their cards will lag behind a player who had a slightly better career and barely made the hall of fame. In 2022 there were a few players that still had a chance at the hall of fame and they did not play at a level high enough to take advantage of a year in their prime.
