Overwatch: HUGE Smurfing Problem - What's Wrong?

In this video we talk about the smurfing problem in Overwatch. This, despite what some people might think, is not a straightforward issue. Having alt accounts to learn new heroes or to play with friends aren't seen as bad, largely because their emblematic of what needs players have that the game doesn't account for, only having one rank for every role and SR grouping limitations respectively. But beyond that, alt accounts can add to the 'throw away' nature of the ranked experience as people tend to treat any match result on their smurf as less consequential. If there's loads of smurfs in one game, then the match can descend into a mess as hardly anyone is actually trying. That pervasiveness of smurfs does eventually lead back to the game systems designed to stop people playing at levels they shouldn't, which the game is actually very good at.
