When Worship is a Sacrifice; Washing the Feet of Jesus... (John 12:1-11, Luke 7:36-48)

Tonight's Bible study takes us to a dinner given in Jesus's honor in Bethany, where Mary takes an expensive jar of perfumed oil and anoints Jesus's feet, washing them with her tears and drying them with her hair. We find the story in all four gospels, and we read in Luke 7 where Simon the Pharisee, taken aback by this encounter, questions if Jesus can truly be a righteous man if he allows himself to be touched by a sinful woman. Hearing his thoughts and knowing his heart, Jesus tells him a story of forgiveness, illustrating the difference between those who feel little need for forgiveness, and those who have had great need for the mercy and grace found at the feet of the Savior. The sweet aroma that filled the room that day wasn't just the expensive perfume. It was the worship Mary poured out from her alabaster box. As promised, here is a link to Cece Winans' beautiful song, Alabaster Box.    • CeCe Winans - Alabaster Box (lyrics)🌹💛
