Nichols is among thousands of federal employees who worked 80 hours and received zero pay, others were furloughed and are not allowed to go to their respective places of employment. - Friday was the day when the partial federal government shutdown officially hit federal worker's pocketbooks. It was supposed to be payday. But paychecks are on hold for some 800,000 federal employees forced to go on unpaid leave or work without pay since Dec. 22 because of the government shutdown.
