Hello again, fitness fanatics. Today we’re talking about how DHA can help reduce inflammation after intense training. DHA, or docosahexaenoic acid, is an omega-3 fatty acid which is a structural part of our bodies, found in the eyes, brain, sperm, testicles, and skin. Most people know DHA as fish oil, and it has been hailed as an important supplement in the fight against heart disease and inflammation. Spanish researchers have discovered that soccer players who tried supplementing 1.6 grams of DHA for 8 weeks were able to reduce their blood markers for inflammation while promoting muscle blood flow. Since some inflammation is vital for growth and fitness adaptations, the practicality and usefulness of this study is unknown. At the very least, we now know for sure that DHA may be a supplement some athletes may wish to avoid, and it may be useful for others who need it for quicker recovery. As always, thanks for watching.
