You Got Served! Serving Civil Documents

The Civil Resolution Tribunal of B.C. ("CRT") handles claims of $5000 and under. As the Applicant, you will not need to serve the Respondent - the Tribunal does this for you. However, you may need to serve a Party to a lawsuit (Applicant or Respondent) with other, important documents. You may need to serve an Offer to Settle, serve your Defense to a counterclaim, ask for permission to add new evidence past the deadline in the rules, or acquire permission to change the day of your hearing. You will want to serve the Party and file a "Proof of Service Form" with the Tribunal. This video will teach you to do that. Until next time, Shawn Adams ~~~ Methods & How to obtain proof of service 1) In-person - Hand it to the person directly. 2) By mail - Send it with a tracker or with signature-on-delivery 3) By courier - Send it signature-on-delivery & print Respondent's signature. 4) By email - Print proof of the email received and email sent dates & highlight them 5) By Fax - Your fax receipt is proof of service 6) At place of business - If the Respondent is a business.
