Lift Off Test (For Subscapularis Injuries)

The lift off test evaluates for subscapularis injuries (and also proximal bicep tendon injuries). The arm is internally rotated with the hand behind the small of the back on the lumbar spine. The dorsum of the hand is facing the back. The examiner places their hand on the patients and ask them to push off against resistance. A positive test is pain or weakness when lifting off.
