And indeed, today marks the Twenty-Fourth Anniversary of the assassination of freedom fighter and SACP stalwart Thembisile Chris Hani. President Jacob Zuma presided over the unveiling of a plaque on the declaration of the late Hani's grave, and the Chris Hani Memorial and Walk of Remembrance as a National Heritage Site. Hani is remembered for signing what became known as the Hani Memorandum in 1969 with six Umkhonto We Sizwe commanders. They were frank about outlining several disturbing trends within the ANC at the time. They accused the leadership of careerism, corruption and persecution by the party's security structures. Hani's commemoration comes in the wake of the recent cabinet reshuffle, which has put the ANC and its alliance partners on a collision course. The SACP and COSATU have subsequently called on President Zuma to step down. For more news, visit: http://www.sabc.co.za/news
