Asian-American community hosts farewell party for Santa Ono

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Santa Ono is saying goodbye to the community that embraced him. He attended a farewell party hosted by the Greater Cincinnati Asian-American community on Saturday. Ono ends his 6-year tenure this month with the University of Cincinnati. He spent the past 4 years as president. He was the first Asian-American to lead UC. Ono says leaving is bittersweet, but it's a homecoming of sorts. He was born in Vancouver Canada and is leaving to become the president of the university of British Columbia. "I think the thing to do is just to connect and to interact with the students,” said Ono. “Continue to connect and listen and then you'll develop a bond. The students are amazing, the Bearcats are amazing and I’m going to miss them." The Asian-American community also presented a gift to Jessica Kim, the widow of Cincinnati Police Officer Sonny Kim.
