US sinks Iranian naval vessel: Sri Lanka says at least 87 killed in Indian Ocean

Thirty-two sailors were rescued by the Sri Lanka Navy and Air Force about 40 kilometres offshore, and more than 80 bodies were recovered; Iran’s ambassador said the remains will be repatriated. Rescue crews saw no sign of the frigate Iris Dina or debris as it returned from the International Fleet Review 2026 in Visakhapatnam. The United States said an American submarine torpedoed and sank the vessel—the first torpedo sinking of an enemy ship since the Second World War—raising questions.
