The Yumthang Valley or Sikkim Valley of Flowers sanctuary, is a nature sanctuary with river, hot springs, yaks and grazing pasture on rolling meadows surrounded by the Himalayan mountains in the North Sikkim district of Sikkim state in India. It is at an elevation of 3,564 metres (11,693 ft) above msl at a distance of 150 kilometres (93 mi) from the state capital Gangtok. Widely known as 'Valley of Flowers 'it is home to the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary. The main attraction of Yumthang Vallery is the flower Rhododendron. The State Flower of Sikkim, it is a red fire ball type of flower bunches which covering the plant and the whole valley. It is said that there are 23 different types of Rhododendrons in various shades and hues that bloom in the spring season. May to July period is when the rhododendrons and primulas are in full floom. Besides this, one can see the carpet of p purple little flowers. Zero Point, situated at Lachung also known as Yume Samdong, Zero Point stands at an altitude of 15,300 ft above mean sea level. It happens to be the last outpost of civilisation and the place where three rivers meet amid a panoramic view of snow-clad mountains and picturesque surroundings.
