Barrick Pueblo Viejo: Supporting the development of the Dominican Republic

In recent years, mining has become a major contributor to economic development in Latin America. For example, a 2014 Economic and Social Impact study of the Pueblo Viejo mining operation in the Dominican Republic found that the mine was responsible for 50% of the growth in the country’s Gross Domestic Product in 2013. According to the study, Pueblo Viejo prompted the development of 331 new businesses in its host province of Sanchez Ramirez.
