Texas Flash Floods: 50 Dead, 27 Girls Still Missing From Camp Mystic | Kerr County Tragedy At least 50 dead, including 15 children, after flash floods sweep central Texas. Torrential rains Friday caused the Guadalupe River to surge over 20 feet in under two hours sweeping through campsites and low-lying areas. Camp Mystic, a private Christian summer camp, was hit hardest, rescue teams have been evacuating people by the hundreds. 27 young girls still remain missing from the Camp, as search and rescue efforts continues. Kerr County alone accounts for 43 deaths; additional fatalities were reported in Travis and Burnet counties. The tragedy comes during the busy Fourth of July weekend, complicating rescue efforts as camps and riverbanks were crowded with families and visitors.
