The Government of Uttar Pradesh awarded her with the Harivansh Rai Bachchan Navodit Geetkaar Award in 2015 and Jagadish Gupta Sarjana Award in 2019 for her significant contribution in the field of literature. Sonroopa has a vivid, vibrant and versatile persona. Her love for music and poetry descends from her bloodline . Her Grandfather Pandit Bhoop Ram Sharma was a famous Jan kavi (folk poet) and her father Dr. Urmilesh Shankhdhar was one of the greatest poets of contemporary hindi literature. He was honoured by Yash Bharti Samman. Sonroopa herself is an acclaimed accomplished poetess and ghazal singer. She has performed at many prestigious events on national and International platforms such as Lal qila mushayara , Sahitya Academy events, events of Indian Society of Authors etc. Internationally she has performed in 24 cities across the USA and Canada in kavi sammelan organised by ' antarrashtriya Hindi Samiti "US". She has also performed in 12 cities across the UK in Kavi Sammelan organized by Indian High Commission UK & ICCR. She is a known face on Indian Television, Literary magazines and Indian newspapers.
