Shehbaz govt rages war against Chief Justice for ‘favouring’ ex-PM Imran Khan

Amid the furious tussle between the Shehbaz Sharif-led Pakistan government and the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Irked Pakistan govt on May 15 launched an all-out attack on Chief Justice of Pakistan for favouring ex-PM Imran Khan. The skirmish intensified after Pak’s Assembly passed a resolution against CJP Umar Ata Bandial over alleged misconduct. The motion was presented in the NA session after suspending the routine business of the house. Not only did Pak govt went against CJP, but Shehbaz’s minister also used the opportunity to criticise Imran Khan and his PTI army. Apart from Asif, Pakistan LoP Raja Riaz also launched a veiled attack on Imran Khan and labelled him and his supporters as enemies’ of the state. Meanwhile, PM Sharif’s crackdown against the ‘rioters’ of the May 9 violence is still underway. However, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan had expressed deep concern over reports of ‘random arrests’ of PTI workers across Pakistan. Imran Khan's political outfit, PTI, saw arrests of over 564 workers for violence after Pakistan, as per The Dawn. The episode of violent clashes began after Imran Khan was arrested in a graft case outside Islamabad High Court on May 09. Soon after his arrest, a rampant outcry erupted in various parts of Pakistan, leaving various public and private properties torched. Hundreds were injured and almost eight persons lost their lives in the violent protests across nation, as per Pakistani media reports. However, Imran Khan was granted 2-week protective bail by the Islamabad High Court on May 12.
