Identities & Inequalities YouTube Project

Identities & Inequalities YouTube Project

For my Sociology of Culture course we were asked to make a video for YouTube summarizing our learning experience. Our class was only five weeks long, and required us to read and study the written work of David M. Newman. Identities & Inequalities: Exploring the Intersections of Race, Class, Gender, and Sexuality was a very interesting read. My only setback to this class was that it was quite a bit of information that we had to absorb in a short period of time. Through this class I find myself more aware of the downfalls that we see in our society in regards to race, class, gender and sexuality. The influence that the media has on our well-being is quite alarming. I mean look... here we are posting a video for educational purposes to a social media site. The media is everywhere, and although it is nice to be kept current with worldly events; I feel that the media tends to "muddy up the water". I feel that through this course it allowed me to realize how many people are trying to attain the unattainable; wealth, acceptance, happiness. I hope that one day we can live in a society that is harmonious together, and accepting of everyone; no matter what their skin color, religion, sexual orientation, or gender.
