(Keira is 6 years old) Keira: Comes out from behind the agency lady. Smiles shyly and waves. Nick: Smiles. Hello sweetheart. Keira: Smiles and hides behind the ladys leg again. (The agency ladys name is Nancy.) Nancy: Dont be shy, honey, these are your new parents. Their going to take great care of you. Keira: Comes out from behind Nancys leg, runs up and jumps on Nicks lap, hugging him. Nick: Smiles big and hugs back. Looks to his right at Joe. Joe: Smiles big too. Keira: Pulls away and few seconds later and crawls onto Joes lap hugging him too. Joe: Smiles and closes her eyes, hugging her back. Nancy: Smiles. Ill leave you guys alone. Walks away. Keira: Pulls away, staying on Joes lap. Looking at both of them, shyly. Im Keira. Nick: Its very nice to meet you Keira, were looking forward to getting to know you. Keira: Smiles. Nick: You can call us... Looks at Joe questionably. Joe: ...both dad? Nick: Says quieter to him. Wouldnt that get confusing? Joe: Looks at Keira. Would that be to confusing for you? Keira: Smiles and shakes her head no. Lays her head on Joes chest. Daddy... Joe: Heart melts when she says that. Gets teary eyed and looks at Nick. Nick: Knows he feels better now. Smiles and kisses his cheek. Nancy: Sticks her head out of the door. Can I talk to one of you for a minute? Nick: Stands up. Yea. Looks at Joe and Keira. Ill be right back. Walks into the other room with Nancy. Is everything okay? Nancy: I just thought you should know a little about Keira. She has quite a past.. Nick: How so? Nancy: Shes only lived with her mom, she doesnt know what its like to have a dad so thats why she is excited about having two of them. Her mom was.., well an alcohalic, there wasnt really much time when she was sober, so Ive heard, and slightly absued her. Not as bad as some children but enough to be a bit tramatized for a young girl. The scar on her back is from when she got hit with a beer bottle. Thats the only time she was physically hurt but yelling every day really upset her. Nick: Wow... Shocked, doesnt know what to say. Nancy: Um, Im not done. Last winter when her mother left one night for the bar, she left her home alone a lot, she didnt come back. Once the wood in the fireplace burned up it got really cold the the aparment, it wasnt till morning that we got a call from the police talking about the girl. They still havent found the mother, they assume she left the state. Nick: Thats horrible, who would do that to such a little girl? Nancy: I dont know what she possibly couldve been thinking. Keiras been living here for about 7 months so she knows sorta what its like to have a normal family but she seems pretty excited about having a real one. Nick: Nods. Does she know our situation? Nancy: I thought Id leave that up to you two to tell here. I told her that you both would talk about it with her when she asked me why there were two boys in the situation. Nick: Alright. Um, anything else I should know? Nancy: Just she might be a little shy but shes suprising easy with trusting new people. Dont leave her home alone and please try not to yell at her-- Nick: Well never yell at her, I believe talking things through would work better. Nancy: Nods. Alright, please explain this to,,. Your significant other for me. Nick: I will. Thank you. Walks back out. Keira: Taught Joe a handshake and is doing it with him. Joe: Looks up at Nick and smiles. Mouths: She likes me. * Excited.* Nick: Giggles and sits down next to him. Wanna teach me? Keira: Smiles and nods. Starts teaching him.
