Disturbance near Florida has 50% formation chance in Gulf of Mexico

Thursday officially kicked off the start of the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane season, and it's already off to an active start with an area of low pressure in the Gulf of Mexico being monitored by the National Hurricane Center (NHC). Invest 91L, a tropical disturbance that formed over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico Wednesday near Florida, now has a 50% chance of becoming a tropical system over the next 48 hours or seven days, the NHC said in its latest advisory Thursday.
