The victory was Berardi's second in 1988 and eighth PBA title, while Ferraro bagged his third PBA victory and re-qualified for the 1989 Firestone Tournament of Champions. Team Berardi/Ferraro began with a three-bagger, while Weber/Voss opened with two spares and then Voss left and failed to convert the 4-8-10 split in his third frame. Berardi/Ferraro came back with three spares and Weber/Voss regrouped with a double, but they had dug too deep a hole, despite a closing four-bagger, and Ferraro needed only to spare and seven-count in the 10th to win. The Showboat PBA Doubles Classic marked the second of three Showboat Hotel-sponsored national PBA tournaments in 1988 and brought down the curtain on this year's three-city Spring Tour.
