Wide of protesters STORYLINE Anti war protesters marred the departure of Britain's Prime Minister Tony Blair from his Trimdon Labour Club constituency in northern England on Thursday, just hours after the Labour leader announced his intention to resign from office. As Labour supporters called Blairs decision to step down "very very sad," and cheered Blair's 10 year reign of power, anti war protesters put the Iraq war firmly into the spotlight. Sitting before a banner that read 'Sedgefield Against War,' two protesters dressed in orange jumpsuits similar to those worn at the detention centre in Guantanamo Bay, expressed their dissatisfaction with Britain's involvement in the Iraq war. Abu Bakr Deghayes, has brother who has spent the last five years in Guantanamo Bay prison told reporters he was there to make sure that Blair "remembers the terrible legacies he left for us and for humanity." A startling contrast to the views expressed by Blair's supporters. "He's irreplaceable," said one Labour supporter. Blair will step down as British prime minister on June 27 after 10 years in office. Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown is widely expected to take over his duties.
