A Great Mariners Game Deep in the Heart of Texas

August 29, 2019 was an awesome day. We made some cup tricks in the morning and then swam in the hotel pool for about three hours. We walked over to the ballpark around 4:30 and when BP started it was fast and furious. Only the M’s hit, but balls were flying everywhere. Our goal is to catch a homerun (game home preferably) on the grass hill in CF so we were stationed just to the side of the hill. Tim did end up getting a homerun out there on a bounce, and Kellan got a mid-hill toss-up on a ball that didn’t quite reach the hill. Grandpa caught a BP homer on the fly over in left field. We each used the cup trick for a ball too. It was Kellan’s first cup trick ever! After BP we were a sweaty mess. We found a nice air-conditioned restaurant in LCF. It was a great spot to rest up and cool off before the game. Felix Hernandez got the start for the Mariners. We’ve now seen both of his starts following his long stint on the DL. He pitched well, but got another no-decision. We didn’t know it at the time, but one of this three strike outs pole vaulted King Felix over Christy Mathewson in the all-time career strike outs list. Felix is now 37th on the list. No one hit any homeruns to the hill for us to catch, but it was a great game. The M’s lead several times during the game and the Rangers came back to tie it up at 3-3. Finally, the M’s scored 2 in the top of the ninth and Matt Magill nailed down the win in the bottom of the ninth. To top off a great day, Tim and Kellan both got Rangers Ballpark “Final Season” commemorative baseballs from home plate umpire Gabe Morales and then Scott Servais gave us some line up cards! Now that’s a good day!
