How To Build a Dakota Fire Hole, a tactical fire lay

The Dakota Fire Hole burns fuel efficiently, similar to a wood stove. Because this fire lay produces little light and smoke, it is recognized as tactical fire lay. Although no fire is 100% tactical, the Dakota Fire Hole: 1) reduces the signature of the fire by placing it below ground; 2) provides a concentrated heat source for cooking and boiling, thus preserving fuel and reducing burn time; 3) creates a large air draft, causing the fire to burn with little smoke; and 4) is easy to ignite in high wind situations.
