How to restore a lathe TYZACK ZYTO LATHE PART 1

Welcome to the restortion of Ray's Lathe, Yes that is correct this isnt mine! i am helping a friend out to get this machine back into good health. Restoring a lathe is no small job, To have a good Restoration on a lathe requires a few things, Patience, Time, Money, and a lot of disposable gloves! This is going to be part 1 of probably 2 maybe 3 dependent on how everything goes. In this episode we focus on take down and analyzing the condition what needs cleaning or replacing. Sadly i don't have access to specialized equipment for checking the bed wear or truness nor do i have a surface grinder and hand scraping equipment. From 'feeling' and taking a close look at the lathes condition i feel it has had very little use, For example the 'gap' on the bed still has the original paint left, the front of the bed ways have no marks e.g. hacksaw slips. upon close inspection of the head stock and lead screw it is visible that no obvious wear has in bedded in the lathe which is fantastic. Bushings also looked good and had no visible issues. I do apologize for the wind noise and breathing noises i am still trying to filter out and get used to video making! The workmanship and techniques used may not be to the highest standard but i feel its to a fair standard for the quality of the machine and my talent.
