A doctor at Nablus hospital said 16-year-old Mohammad Qadus died on Saturday after being shot in the chest by Israeli security forces. Palestinians say a 17-year-old protester was also in serious condition after being shot in the head. Israel''s military confirmed that it dispersed a group of rock-throwing Palestinians near the town of Iraq Burin in the northern West Bank. It said two Palestinians were injured. Clashes take place in the village on a nearly weekly basis over a water well that Palestinians claim Jewish settlers are trying to seize for their own use. Elsewhere on Saturday, clashes erupted between Israelis and Palestinians in the Arab neighbourhood of Shoafat in East Jerusalem. Violent protests have erupted several times in the past week in east Jerusalem, where residents are angry over both new Jewish housing plans and unsubstantiated rumours that Jewish extremists are plotting to take over an Old City shrine, holy to both Muslims and Jews. Meanwhile, hundreds of Palestinians in Gaza attended a rally calling for an end to the siege on the Gaza strip, marching close to the territory''s northern border with Israel. Overnight strikes by Israeli aircraft injured at least 12 people in the Gaza strip, according to Hamas officials, with five missiles striking close to Gaza''s defunct airport and nearby border tunnels. The Israeli military confirmed Friday''s operation, saying it targeted militant activities in response to the recent rocket fire from Gaza. On Thursday rocket fire killed a Thai worker on an Israeli communal farm near the Gaza border, the first such death since Israel''s war on Gaza more than a year ago. Earlier this month, Israelis and Palestinians had agreed to indirect talks, with US envoy George Mitchell to shuttle between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. However, the indirect talks were put on hold after Israel announced plans to build 1,600 new houses for Jews in east Jerusalem. On Friday, the Mideast mediators, known as the Quartet, met in Moscow to try to find a way to restart Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.
