Thoracic slumping is when the thoracic spine begins to slump forward. It is the result of 2 primary causes. One, weakness in the erector spinae muscle group of the back. The erector spinae muscles function to extend the spine and help maintain good posture. Two, fascial adhesion build up in the muscles on the front of the torso in the region of the abdomen and rib cage. Thoracic slumping can lead to further postural problems so it's best to correct it as soon as possible. It can also affect your workout, in particular your squat form. A straight back, with your chest up, is vital for maximum effort on the squat. Dr. Joe demonstrates how to perform fascial release work on the fascia and muscles of the rib cage and abdomen. He then demonstrates two different exercises to help strengthen the erector spinae muscle group. If your are suffering with thoracic slumping, this is a video that you do not want to miss.
