Grieg Morning Mood from Peer Gynt Suite Best Pieces Works Recordings by the great Norwegian Composer https://maltmarketing.com/ Morning Mood, (Norwegian: Morgenstemning), more commonly known as "Morning", is part of Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt, Op. 23, written in 1875 as incidental music to Henrik Ibsen's play of the same name, and was also included as the first of four movements in the Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Op. 46. Edvard Hagerup Grieg was born on 15th June 1843 in the city of Bergen on the west coast of Norway. The young Grieg had an early introduction to music – from the age of 6 his mother was his piano teacher. The teenage Grieg was talent spotted by Norwegian violinist Ole Bull who persuaded Grieg’s parents to send him to the Leipzig Conservatory where he honed his piano playing and composing skills. Although born and buried in Bergen, Grieg was widely travelled throughout Europe and helped to identify an national identity for Norwegian folk culture – many of his own compositions used Norwegian folk music themes. Grieg was also a key contributor to the Norwegian Romantic Nationalism movement which spanned 1840 to 1867 and focussed on promoting art, literature, and popular culture as key elements in Norwegian identity. This movement helped the country in regaining its independence from Sweden in 1905. Grieg died two years later on 4th September 1907 aged 64. His funeral was held in his home city of Bergen and brought over 30,000 people to honour his life – he was cremated and his ashes are kept in a mountain crypt near his house Troldhaugen (Norse: Troll Hill).
