Thales Goalkeeper

Defense Technology International (DTI)'s Ares weblog [http://www.aviationweek.com/ares ] provides a daily update on international defense technology news. In support of a feature on ship self defense in DTI's December 2007 issue, Ares published a post on the Thales Goalkeeper 30-mm. close-in weapon system Nov. 28. This video, shot by DTI Senior European Editor Joris Janssen Lok on board the Dutch navy frigate HrMs Van Nes (F 833), shows the Goalkeeper firing its General Electric GAU-8 Gatling gun -- the very same gun that also equips the famous A-10A Thunderbolt close air support aircraft. The Goalkeeper is in frontline use with Britain's Royal Navy and the navies of the Netherlands, Qatar, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates.
