TheGrefg reveals the inside of CECOT in an unprecedented documentary

The renowned Spanish streamer TheGrefg released a shocking documentary after gaining exclusive access to the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT), located in Tecoluca, El Salvador, considered the largest maximum-security prison in Latin America. During his visit, TheGrefg showcased the strict conditions of confinement and the extreme security regime that characterizes this penitentiary, inaugurated in 2023 and designed to house up to 40,000 inmates linked to criminal organizations. One of the most powerful moments in the documentary occurs at the end of the visit, when the content creator speaks with Marvin Ernesto Medrano Vázquez, identified as one of the founders of Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), who is serving a 300-year prison sentence. Although MS-13 emerged in Los Angeles during the 1980s, over time it transformed into a transnational criminal organization characterized by systematic extortion and the use of extreme violence in several countries in the region. According to official data, following the security policies implemented by President Nayib Bukele's government, nearly two-thirds of the gang's members have been imprisoned. At CECOT, inmates are held in maximum-security wings, without mattresses, under constant surveillance, and without any contact with the outside world—a regime that has generated international attention and debate. TheGrefg's documentary offers an unprecedented look at the inner workings of this emblematic prison and the scope of the security strategy that has marked a turning point in El Salvador. #CDM
