Yuval Harari’s book A Brief History of Humankind was an international bestseller and was even recommended by Barack Obama, Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates. In his book, Homo Deus, the 41-year-old Israeli ups the ante and looks to the future: What will become of the human being, who at the beginning of the 21st century no longer wants to be human? Now that the modern human has replaced their belief in God with a belief in themselves, they are on the verge of breaking through the barrier to becoming superhuman, God-like. Humans do not want to continue getting old and in Silicon Valley they are already tinkering away at the recipe for immortality and working on merging humans and machines to create super-intelligent cyborgs. But will these upgrades make us happier? Or will the divide between the God-like Homo Deus and the traditional Homo Sapiens lead to deep divisions and new kinds of wars based on beliefs?
