Wolf’s Rain was an earlier show that aired on Adult Swim by the legendary Studio Bones. To many, it resonates as an introspective and spiritual odyssey of empathetic characters overcoming every obstacle to find salvation. To others, it's a pretentiously written series with a slow episodic structure, dense symbolism, and a bitter or controversial end. With the license recently expired, I felt a need to create a trailer that reflects Wolf’s Rain’s positive appeal. A spiritual successor to Cowboy Bebop, it includes many of its same strengths and weaknesses found therein. Both its lead writer, Keiko Nobumoto, and its original composer, Yoko Kanno, return to work on this title with another Bebop veteran named Tensai Okamura as director. Bound together by tragic fate, the story follows the last of Earth’s magical wolves as they journey to escape a dying world by finding their way to a mythical dimension known as Paradise. As they witness the Earth wither and crumble, the resulting tears they shed are the Wolf’s Rain. Please enjoy my trailer and let it stand as a dedication to its characters. There are few anime that try to make a compelling new mythology of our world’s origin for viewers, and none that do so for wolves. Watch it on legal streams or TV networks if/when it becomes available, or purchase official boxed sets to support the original creators for their timeless work.
