TRI Transmission and Bearing Corporation built a large Babbitt caster to handle bearings for turbines and generators. The bearing shell is steel. The bore is prepped with tin and then Babbitt is melted and poured into as it spins. Water is then sprayed on the outside of the shell to cool down the Babbitt. The trick to Babbitting a bearing like this is to make a pour with little or no porosity and one that bonds to the steel. More Info: http://www.turboresearch.com
