So we have had the Panamera E-Hybrid almost three weeks now and the crucial question is 'does it live up to all expectations'? Before I answer this I guess we have to understand what the expectations were. Obviously we wanted a car that could seat four in comfort, drove you in luxury but could also, almost at the prod of the accelerator, turn into a fierce sports car. Yes Yes I hear you say but what about e-mode, can it really deliver a range that in the real world is truly useable and does the ability to drive the car in traffic in electric mode mean the car really can approach the overall consumption figures that all manufactures claim for their Hybrids, 129 miles per gallon in the case of Porsche. The answer is, it is too early to tell, I am not trying to fudge the issue in any way but Porsche say that the car needs to be well run in before the true consumption figures can be realised and our car has less that 500 miles on it. However what I can say is that you have to learn about the car to get the best from it. For example I started by using the e-Charge mode rather than charging at home, time issues mainly, which means the engine is charging the electric motor as you go. The problem with this method is that I was averaging less than 20 mpg whilst doing this, oops!!! I therefore quickly realised that to obtain the best mpg you had to charge at home and then use the e-hold function to maintain the charge until you needed it the most, in my case where it will best help the environment, so in the centre of London. This it is brilliant at, wafting through traffic without emitting a sound, or from the inside at least it certainly seems this way. And it is a very very comfortable car for four, though not a full bloodied sports car, just too heavy. I love the club truffle leather which provides a great old world ambience and provides a terrific contrast to all the technology on offer, it is simply a brilliant cabin imo. In respect of the overall mpg figures we shall have to wait for a definitive answer on this but I suspect mid thirties may well not be too far off the mark. Thanks for watching guys and please make sure you subscribe to see further videos of the Panamera as soon as they are released. Collection will be next!
