합참 "북한, 동해상으로 탄도미사일 발사" We begin with yet another provocation from North Korea with two ballistic missiles fired toward the East Sea earlier this morning. This is the regime's second missile test in just eight days in its latest series of protests against the ongoing Seoul-Washington joint military drills. For more we are joined by our defense correspondent Kim Yeon-seung on the line. Yeon-seung, what more do we know about this? South Korea's military and Japan's coast guard detected two fresh rounds of ballistic missiles fired off to the East Sea at around 7:47 AM to 8 AM. The details regarding the missiles' trajectory are currently slightly different between the two nations. According to South Korea's military, the missiles traveled 370 kilometers towards the east. Meanwhile, the Japanese Coast Guard has reported that the missiles flew around 350 kilometers at a maximum altitude of 50 kilometers. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said that they're keeping an eye out on the situation for more details and keeping guard for any possible extra launches. An expert has raised the possibility of this missile to be a North Korea-made army tactical missile system carrying a test warhead. This latest missile launch follows a series of recent tests by North Korea, as tensions remain high on the Peninsula. North Korea has been escalating its weapons testing while the Seoul-Washington allies have been increasing their combined field exercises. In fact, this week, we are seeing two significant events taking place: the Ssangyong drill, the largest landing amphibious exercise in five years, and the arrival of one of the largest American warships, the U.S.-deployed Nimitz-class aircraft carrier in Busan. The U.S. is also set to deploy nuclear-capable strategic assets to the Korean Peninsula for some of the upcoming field exercises. I will continue to follow this developing story and bring you an update at our later newscast.
