Preaching: Andrew Williams: Associate Pastor of Youth & Children Message Text: John 1:1–14 Sermon Series: The Light of All Mankind Sermon Title: The Daybreak of Human History Get Ready! Nativity sets are always based on Matthew and Luke—we get the wisemen from Matthew and the shepherds from Luke. But are these the only Gospels that tell the Christmas story? No, they aren’t. While Mark skips straight to Jesus’ adult ministry, John has his own version of the Christmas story. But John’s telling is totally unique. There’s no stable, no star, and no little town of Bethlehem. Instead, John goes back to the very beginning, to the One who was God and with God at creation. This one, John says, “became flesh and dwelt among us.” John’s story is less about the earthly circumstances surrounding Christ’s arrival (as important as those are!) and more about making sure we are crystal clear on the divine identity of the One who has arrived. This Sunday we'll be in John 1:1–14, kicking off our new Advent sermon series, The Light of All Mankind. Have a happy Thanksgiving and come ready to turn your hearts to Jesus as we consider the God who came to take us out of the darkness and into the light.
