(26 Jul 1995) T/I: 10:58:09 10:41:46 Authorities in Kashmir stepped up security on Monday (24/7) as thousands of Hindus prepare to make their annual pilgrimage to the sacred shrine of Amarnath, in the disputed Indian province. Kashmiri militants have called for a strike which would close all shops and establishments in Pahalgam, on the route to Amarnath, making the journey more difficult. Security forces have moved into the area to guard priests and pilgrims in case the militants use violence to enforce the strike. All the pilgrims are searched before being allowed to continue.
