I encourage your participation or interaction by commenting http://www.esdlt.com/MathTools/ or submitting questions http://www.esdlt.com/contact-us/ Today's example reads; Calculate MLVSS mixed liquor volatile suspended solids Pounds Under Aeration Today's problem reads: The food-to-microorganism F/M ratio, is 0.59 pounds of Chemical Oxygen Demand COD per day per one pound mixed liquor volatile suspended solids, MLVSS, under aeration. The average COD the raw entry to waste water is 3,000 milligrams per liter and the average COD of the primary treated wastewater is 2,830 PPM. The average daily flow is 79,165 gallons per hour GPH. Calculate MLVSS pounds under aeration. This is a number manipulation of pounds. What we're going to do here is we're going to create a formula so that we can have a solution. By taking the COD pounds added, divided by the pounds of COD per one pound of MLVSS. We got the COD for one pound of MLVSS, but we do not have in the data the COD pounds added. I actually have that solution in a stand alone video. I'm going to bring this solution into the formula and then link you to the solution to that problem with a separate video. Let's see how this works. Let's go into a blank Excel spreadsheet. In C1 you can type Calculate MLVSS Under Aeration. You know your answer is going to be in pounds. Put you cursor in A1. You can set it up as whole numbers with zero decimals and commas every 1,000. Set it as bold and centered and in the address bar you can type in this formula, =(2,694)÷(0.59) and then press enter. In A1 is your answer, 4,566 pounds of calculating MLVSS Now the 2,694 COD pounds added per day is in a separate stand alone video because it's not in the data in the problem. We use the data in the problem to solve the 2,694. This is the link here and this is the formula and the data. You an go, learn from that video if you like, but 4,566 is the answer.
