Not the syndicated tabloid news show, this 'Hard Copy' (1987) was a drama about goings-on at a newspaper. Created by Levinson and Link (responsible for 'Columbo' and many other top crime shows) it starred Michael Murphy and a young fellow named Dean Devlin (who would become a producer of productions like 'Leverage' and 'Independence Day'), 'Hard Copy' was zinged as a collection of tired cliches, and despite the L&L pedigree it was pulled after eight episodes (the remaining two reportedly burned off during the summer). The only composer associated with the show is Morgan Cavett, a songwriter/producer who worked with The Captain & Tennile and Steppenwolf et al. So maybe (likely?) this theme is his.
