Sting Like a Bat

I finished Arkham Asylum (on the PS3) back in 2009 and haven't felt the need to return to it since, but because of the hype surrounding its upcoming sequel Arkham City I decided to return to the first game and briefly check it out again. And, well, the awesome melee combat is at least as good as I remembered it; combining as it does elegant simplicity in control design on the one hand (just two keys for attacking and countering) with pure skill-based crowd management and combo maximization on the other. This is the best possible version of the mainstream AAA game philosophy of today; since it's all about making the game extremely accessible and satisfying to a wide audience without at the same time dumbing it down and thereby removing the challenge or the rewards for increasingly becoming better at the game mechanics. Long story short, I can't wait to play the inexcusably delayed PC version of Batman: Arkham City...
