A chorus of rich, powerful voices rose into the desert heat, echoing off ochre coloured stones scattered across the landscape like a giant’s playground. This week, I returned to base camp, accompanying Rachel Harris, EHRA’s Managing Director, for their annual Board of Directors’ meeting. And I had the chance to speak with one of those unforgettable voices — Helmut Eiseb. Helmut, a soft-spoken 26-year-old man with a powerful presence, smiled as he recalled the day I filmed. “It was very hot,” he said with a laugh. “The men decided to sing to help them get through the day.” Then he added, a bit shyly, “Maybe we were also just a little lazy because of the heat.” He explained that the hymn they sang came from church: “With your eyes, you must look. With your ears, you must hear. With your mouth, you must praise. And with your feet, you must walk.” “For me,” Helmut continued, “singing is very good. It helps me get into a different mindset when I’m in a bad mood.”© LIN ------- @Elephant Human Relations Aid
