As you travel down Skyline Drive outside of Front Royal, about the 10 mile marker you will see a parking lot on the left for Compton Peak. This is a short hike to a fantastic view! However, there’s also a hidden gem. At the top of the peak there is a cross-trail. To the Right takes you to the view. To the left takes you down to a cool columnar formation of rock that is worth the trip. I am a member of the Hawk Support Team, who follows @CraigMains as he roams up and down the Appalachian Trail. This run-in happened on his 6th thru-hike, in 2021. As he was in my area, I decided to set-up some Trail Magic for the hikers in the area while taking a day-hike of my own. So follow along as I show some of the sights of Compton Peak.
