Aftermath of two cars bombs that detonated in predominantly Shiite areas

(31 Jul 2014) Residents of two Shiite neighbourhoods of Baghdad on Thursday inspected the damage caused by two car bombs that exploded there the day before as residents tried to celebrate the Eid al-Fitr holiday marking the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan. People and a heavy loader could be seen removing rubble from the ground scattered around the blast scenes. The car bomb exploded in the district of al-Amin in eastern Baghdad killed eight people and wounding 20 others, according to police. Earlier on Wednesday, shortly before sunset on Wednesday, a car bomb exploded near a line of small restaurants in Sadr City neighbourhood, killing 15 people and wounding 28, police officials said. Several shops and cars burned in the explosion.
