Cutaway Zaiuddin STORYLINE: Indian and Pakistani diplomats began their journeys home on Monday in the latest round of tit-for-tat expulsions that have further deteriorated relations between the nuclear-armed rivals. Sudhir Vyas, the acting Indian ambassador, and four other Indian embassy employees left Islamabad on an arduous 12-hour land journey after being ordered out of Pakistan last week. The Pakistani government accused them of "actions unbecoming their status", a term that usually refers to spying. Pakistan's acting ambassador, Jalil Abbas Jilani, and four embassy staff flew from New Delhi on Monday to the Indian Punjab city of Amritsar from where they would make the two-hour land journey to Pakistan. India ordered Jilani to leave the country, accusing him of funnelling money to separatists in the Indian part of Kashmir. Pakistan denied the charges. In Islamabad, Pakistani Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Monday said the expulsions were an attempt by India to derail any prospects of improved relations. Expulsions are not uncommon between the two neighbours and these were the second round this year. The latest expulsions would appear to wreck hopes that the neighbours might soon begin talks to settle their protracted dispute over the divided Himalayan region of Kashmir. united Kashmir joins Pakistan or India.
