Shortly after starting the game, the player takes on the role of Geralt, a witcher (monster-hunter) who was found unconscious and remembers almost nothing of his former life. Piecing the past together while an assault happens on Kaer Morhen, the witcher base, Geralt must make choices and fight enemies as he tries to both fight evil and reclaim his memories. From CD Projekt RED S.A.'s own Web site, part of the description reads: "The player assumes the role of Geralt of Rivia, a witcher -- a professional monster slayer. Abandoned as a child, he was subjected to rigorous training and mutation he is an ultimate killing machine with supernatural abilities. As a witcher he is a sword master with little contestation."
