2024 Toyota GR Supra 45th Anniversary Pays Tribute To The 1990s Mk4 Toyota’s GR lineup is getting a bunch of updates for the 2024 model year and the Supra is looking back to the past for inspiration. A new 45th Anniversary Edition includes visual callbacks to the previous generation and performance upgrades too. Toyota says it’s only going to make 900 in total for the US market. The Japanese automaker specifically says that this special edition is a tribute to the historically excellent Mk IV Supra. To that end, it comes in two paint colors, Mikan Blast (Mikan means Orange in Japanese), and Absolute Zero (white). Toyota will paint 450 of the cars in one color and the other 450 in the other. Regardless of paint color, the 45th Anniversary GR Supra is going to come with matte black 19-inch wheels, black GR brake calipers, and a black Supra wordmark graphic on the side of the car. At the rear of each car one will find a black oversized (Toyota calls it that) manually-adjustable rear spoiler. Under the hood, a Mikan Blast-painted strut tower bar adds rigidity. Each 45th Anniversary GR Supra will be based on the 3.0 Premium grade. As such, it’ll come with the 382 hp twin-turbocharged inline-six engine. Buyers can specify either the eight-speed automatic or the six-speed manual transmission. It goes on sale later this year in the fall. Pricing will be announced later this year. This isn’t the only special edition Supra we’ve seen in recent years but it might be the best. In the past, the A91, A91-CF, and A91-MT made their debut but this new special edition has a clear and direct link to probably the greatest Supra ever. Regardless of which is actually best it’s clear that the model has a rich history. Over the decades the car has evolved from its debut in 1979 as the Celica Supra through multiple generations to the car it is now. Toyota says it’s now gone as far as to sell 100 of its Supra GT4 cars to customers that want to go racing around the world. That’s quite the success story regardless of how much BMW DNA might be under the skin of this current car. As is the case with every Supra that Toyota sells, the buyer will get a complimentary 1-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association. That includes one free High-Performance Driving Event (HPDE) and discounted admission to NASA-sanctioned events.
